glossary

Diegetic- It's a sound that the character hears as well as the audience, and usually implies a reaction from the character.

Non diegetic- It's the sound which is represented as coming from a source outside the story space, which only the audience can hear.

Ambient- It is music that focuses largely on the characteristics of sound often performed to evoke an atmosphere or visual quality.

SFX- Sound effects are artificially created or enhanced sounds.

Mood- Where the music or sound matches the mood of a character.

Tone- Where the music or sound sets the tone for the scene.

Genre- The type of music or sound used in a scene.

Theme music- Music or sound played through out the course of the film.

Voice over-  A narrator who speaks over a piece of film or a scene

Musical score- Different types of Music played over the course of the film

Synchronous sound- Sound with are synchronized or matched with what is viewed.

Asynchronous sound- sound or music that does not match the action in a scene

Contrapuntal-

Silence- no noise is created
