We use SFX in TV and film production because it makes the clip seem more realistic and add to the sound quality.
2. What are the advantages of using SFX's in TV and film productions? What do they add to the overall production?
It makes the clip more realistic. Makes it sound like it is real. They enhance the sound quality. With many objects you make a sound effect such as peas dropping on tin sounds like rain. SFX's make the show better.
3. What are disadvantages of using SFX's in TV and film productions?
Sometimes the SFX's may be over emphasized. Sometimes the sound recorded make not sound right.
4. What is the job description of a foley artist?
Foley artists look to recreate the realistic ambient sound that the film portrays. The props and sets of a film do not react the same way acoustically as their real life counterparts. Foley sounds are used to enhance the auditory experience of the movie. Foley can also be used to cover up unwanted sounds captured on the set of a movie during filming that might take away from the scene at hand, such as overflying airplanes or passing traffic.
